Frequently
Asked Questions
Who does
DREAM serve?
DREAM serves families of children with mental health challenges including
Significant Emotional Disorders (SED).
How
do you qualify for respite?
Any family that has a child with a mental disorder or SED diagnosis
qualifies for services.
How
do I sign up for respite?
A parent or guardian must participate in a Family Intake Meeting with
a DREAM employee to review the paperwork. The meeting takes about 45
minutes. It can take place at the DREAM office, in your home or a central
location.
Who
pays for respite?
There are resources available from outside agencies such as Medicaid
or Post Adoption Resources. The family may also pay the respite provider
directly. DREAM just received a grant to pay providers for qualified
Fort Collins families while the funds are available.
How
do I qualify for a stipend?
You must:
• Live in Fort Collins
• Have a child with a mental health or SED diagnosis
• There must be money available
• Complete a needs assessment application
• Be accepted based on the application
What
about siblings?
DREAM respite providers will also care for the siblings of the child
with the diagnosis.
Are the
providers qualified to take care of my child(ren)?
DREAM respite providers are over the age on 20 and have completed
an 8 hour training course. Each has a current certification in CPR/First
Aid. All respite providers have had background checks, driving record
checks, proof of insurance, and reference checks.
Where
does the respite take place?
Many of our families have the respite take place in their home while
they go out. If the family wishes to remain at home the respite providers
can take the child out in the community to a park, a movie or some other
activity.

Yes, DREAM partners with EMPOWER Colorado, a statewide support group
for families of children with mental health challenges. The support
group meets the last Thursday of the month at the DREAM conference
room.

floor of 3800 Automation Way. It is on the SE the corner of Automation
Way and Bighorn, one block west of Timberline and one block south
of Horsetooth.
What
other services do you supply?
DREAM offers family and public education about common mental disorders
to increase knowledge and reduce the stigma involved in having a mental
health diagnosis.
A DREAM advocate is available to attend Individualized
Education Plan meetings (IEP) as well as support for the family in any
situation where an advocate is required.
